Growing Things Naturally

I have new roses as of Saturday. Now this doesn’t surprise many people. I love my rose bushes. They just make me smile when I see them. I now have a total of 6. These two new ones though are different. They are antique roses. While I tend to go for the hybrid tea these roses are more old fashioned.

Roses are not fussy plants, I really don’t care what anyone says, they aren’t. They like full sun for a good portion of the day. I make sure mine get theirs in the morning. In S. Texas the afternoon sun can be brutal remember. They also like plenty of water, but at their roots. They don’t like to have wet leaves. So when you water them, if you water them, do it at the base of the rose.

They also like to be fertilized. Here is were real simple comes in. You don’t have to go and purchase that chemical fertilizer. Roses love manure. Yes, manure, I said it, they love it. We are lucky that the stuff now comes in a bag that you can purchase from you nursery. You don’t need a whole lot, just mix some in with water and your roses will show their love.

You also need to mulch roses. This will ensure that they are protected. Be sure to get a natural mulch so nothing leaches into the soil.

See now? Wasn’t that easy? I told you they were. I will take some photos maybe this evening to post of my pretty roses to prove they are easy plants to take care of naturally!
