Kudos to Anheuser-Busch

For starters this is not going to be an article praising the beer industry for making beer.  But instead praising Anheuser-Busch for it’s green practices at Sea World.

Last week the family went to Sea World. It is one of our favorite places to go when we visit San Antonio, but we had yet to visit the one in Orlando. So we packed up the kids and went for a two day trip.

For starters Anheuser-Busch offers active military members and three family dependents free tickets once a year. You can pick any of their parks. See Hero Salute for more info if you are military. They even had a ticket queue just for us so we didn’t even need to wait in line.

Now it’s been awhile since we were at any amusement park, so things may have changed, but this is my impression. We have always gotten the big souvenir cups. For starters they are big and I have lots of kids. We can get two and keep refilling them for cheaper than buying drinks. There isn’t that constant search for a trash can to throw away the drink cups. We go through a lot of drinks at a park. And the kids are young and they get a kick out of souvenir cups.

But the kids are older this time. And I am about to move and one more plastic cup was just not on my agenda. So here we are going to buy drinks. The first thing we notice is no place sells drinks in cups with straws. Kudos to you there Sea World. They all end up in landfills. They sell their drinks in bottles. How cool is that? Well not only do they sell all their beverages in recyclable bottles, but next to every trash can in the park is a recycle can! No wandering around wondering where to throw a plastic or aluminum can away. Another Kudos to Anheuser-Busch.

After coming home I found a few more interesting facts about Anheuser-Busch as a company.

They recycle 25% more cans than they put on the market! Can you imagine how great it would be if every company had this policy? If their goal was just to recycle as many cans and bottles as they put out there. Think about the impact that would have?

They work to cut their energy consumption and to use any solid waste they produce in a positive way. They encourage their employees to get involved as well. They are involved in water conservation, renewable energy and wildlife and habitat efforts.

Now I am not saying to start buying Anheuser-Busch beer. If you like and drink beer sure, but this isn’t where I am going. What I am saying is we need to support and encourage companies that are taking this kind of green effort. If all companies put in some kind of effort to green up their business practices the world would be a better place.

Do you know a company that has green practices? Leave a comment and I will start a list of great companies to support. No company is to small. I know there have to be some great at home businesses that we can support that have green practices. Let’s take our green efforts a step further but shopping and using green companies!
